SGSCS – Latin America | Telecoms

HMN’s first repeater and branching unit solution, linking the Caribbean to South America

SGSCS

Global Marine provided to Telesur & GT&T a two fibre pair solution terminated between Trinidad and Guyana, with a branching unit into Suriname in Latin America.

The 1, 249 kilometres system was installed as a repeatered solution with optimum repeater spacing of 70 kilometres, with each fibre pair having a maximum capacity of 64x10Gbit/s wavelengths. Each fibre pair was equipped on day one with an initial capacity of 2x10Gbit/s wavelengths upon implementation.

Due to the innovative design of the terminal equipment, system upgrades can easily and cost-effectively be accomplished as and when required.

The Challenge

Significant pre-laid shore end installation operations were required at both Suriname and Guyana.

The first shore end was landed directly from the C.S. Sovereign in Trinidad with a 27 kilometre pre-laid shore end landing at Guyana, a pre-laid shore end was also required at Suriname and extended 18 kilometres from land.

C.S. Sovereign utilised the submersible plough and remotely operated vehicle systems to install the cable up to one metre below the seabed to ensure cable protection in shallow waters.
