Meet our Cadets – Jonathan Tailford

Marine Engineer

Meet Jonathan Tailford, who shares his 10-year journey from starting as a Marine Engineer Cadet to achieving his current role as a 2nd Marine Engineer with Global Marine.

Learning new skills, gaining life experience and seeing the world.

When starting my cadetship, I wanted to learn new skills, gain life experiences, and see the world. At Global Marine, I found this and much more.

I have been part of teams that have successfully laid and repaired telecommunications worldwide; which in turn has allowed me to experience new cultures and places such as Curacao, The Philippines, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Bermuda, South Africa, Namibia, France, Holland & Dominican Republic.

The Global Marine Cadetship is perfect for personal development; championing ‘hands-on’ practical experience, troubleshooting capabilities, teamwork and communication skills.

I have been able to learn and evolve as a person and as a leader. Global Marine also supported my desire for self-improvement by assisting me in acquiring my 2nd Engineers certification.

Since my first day with the company, I have gained vital experience, allowing for promotion from Engine Cadet, to 4/E, to 3/E, to 2/E, within 10 years.

Not only have I gained practical and life experiences, I also have Global Marine to thank for meeting my future wife, during a trip to Dorset.

We now live happily in Dorset, quite a distance from my hometown of South Shields, with a baby on the way!

I couldn’t recommend Global Marine highly enough; with a strong mix of interesting projects, good team ethics, and a clear drive for individual and collective improvement from Crew to Senior Management.
