Cadet Training delivered through The Ship Safe Training Group
All of our Cadets receive their training through The Ship Safe Training Group (SSTG) with sponsorship from Global Marine. This program offers a blend of academic study at a UK nautical college and practical, hands-on experience aboard one of our ships at sea.
SSTG’s highly respected training programmes provide internationally recognized qualifications. You’ll gain real-world responsibility while working on our advanced vessels, developing personal skills that open doors to various global career opportunities.
As an SSTG sponsored Cadet, all your study fees and expenses are covered, and you’ll receive a training allowance from Global Marine.

Global Marine Cadetships
For four decades, our Cadetship programmes have seen hundreds of Deck, Marine and Electro Technical (ETOs) Cadets complete their training and embark on successful careers at sea. We are proud to share that some of the brightest and best of these Cadets have joined the Global Marine Group post-cadetship.
Our commitment to providing talented young Cadets with opportunities for growth and hands-on experience aboard our global fleet of specialised cable vessels remains steadfast. Currently, we have 18 future seafarers enrolled in our Cadetship programmes.
Our Cadets learn through a combination of on and off-the-job education and training. On the job, Cadets work aboard our vessels alongside staff, gaining essential practical skills for their maritime career. The rest of their course is spent with industry-experienced tutors at our partner college, learning on a day-release basis.
Global Marine currently partners with the South Shields Marine School to deliver our Cadet programmes.
Programmes are also delivered through:
Warsash Maritime School
Fleetwood Nautical College
City of Glasgow College
Our Cadet training programmes provide a solid foundation for a rewarding and dynamic career at sea, offering numerous benefits in terms of skill development, career opportunities, and personal growth. Here are some of the key advantages:
Deck Officers are responsible for the safe navigation, cargo operation and the overall safety and security of the vessel. Their expertise and leadership are essential for ensuring a safe and successful voyage at sea.
Marine Engineers are vital for the safe and efficient operation of the ship. Their expertise in mechanical and electrical systems ensure the vessel operates smoothly and meets all regulatory requirements.
Electro-Technical Officers (ETOs) are integral members of the Engineering department, collaborating closely with marine engineers to ensure the safe operation and maintenance of all electrical, electronic, and communication equipment on board.
